Lombok is Bali’s quieter neighbour, with surf beaches, waterfalls and the trek up Mount Rinjani. It offers the scenery without the crowds. A little planning goes a long way. Before you commit to dates, it pays to Traveloka and see what the numbers look like.
Getting there
Lombok (LOP) takes regional flights, or you can reach it by fast boat from Bali in a couple of hours. The airport sits in the south near the surf beaches. A day-by-day plan
Day one, settle in and take it slow with the beaches and coves around Kuta Lombok, then find your feet over a relaxed dinner. Day two, go bigger: a Gili Islands day trip, then the Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile waterfalls, with street food along the way. Day three, wind down with the Sasak villages inland before you head home.
Where to stay
Kuta Lombok is the surf-and-beach base in the south; Senggigi on the west coast suits an easier pace. The Gili Islands are a short hop offshore. Where to eat
Try ayam taliwang and plecing kangkung, the fiery local specialities, at cheap and cheerful beach warungs. Seafood grills line the southern bays. Eat where the queues are, and don’t fill up at the first place you sit down.
Getting around
Roads are quieter than Bali’s but distances are real, so hire a car or driver for the day. Boats link the south to the Gili Islands. Working out the transport early pays for itself over a few days.
Keep it flexible
Book the flights and a first night or two, then leave the rest open if you can. It lets you follow a local tip, chase the good weather, or simply linger somewhere in Lombok you weren’t ready to leave.
A note on money
Carry some local cash for stalls, markets and small fares, even where cards are widely accepted. Setting a rough daily budget keeps things relaxed and makes Lombok feel like even better value than it already is.

A local SIM or eSIM is cheap and makes maps, ride-hailing and last-minute bookings painless across Lombok. Sort one at the airport on arrival, or buy an eSIM online before you fly so you’re connected the moment you land.
What to pack
Pack light and leave room for what you’ll bring home. Comfortable shoes, a light layer for cool evenings or fierce air-conditioning, and a small day bag cover most of what Lombok asks of you.
